Colegio de Bagaces will give international baccalaureate

30 students start classes on February

From next year, thirty guanacastecos students will be part of the first generation of international baccalaureate in the Bagaces School.

This is the first school to offer this modality in Guanacaste.

"In a meeting, a couple of years ago, regional director of Guanacaste asked the directors of schools if we would be interested to give this option, and only I got the hand", said Eva Vásquez, Director of the School.

"That is how began the preparation of two years." Foreign teachers trained our teachers. "The Ministry of Education also endowed us a library, a science laboratory and a computer lab for a better teach", she added.

The students. Vasquez said that select students are not only from Bagaces, since it reached a compromise with the international baccalaureate Association of Costa Rica (Asobitico) to receive students throughout the province.

"We will have students from Cañas Liberia, Guayabo, Abangares, Bagaces," said Vasquez.

The official also explained that students selected at first were subjected to a test of general knowledge, and then made them an interview to find out the reasons why they wanted to be in the program.

In this way were formed two groups of 15 students each. They will receive another year of classes for covering all topics. "Upon completion, is expected to have a good management of the English language, more skills in mathematics and Sciences, and good bases for research and oral expression," explains the organization.

Advantages. For Vasquez, international baccalaureate is a possibility of further development for Guanacaste. "It is very important for the province. This will give more opportunities to the students, could open the doors of universities in other countries," assured.

"Also this will help us to improve the education of the region. This kind of teaching is not rote and helps improve the intellect and learning of young people in different ways," said.
